Kay Johannsen
is an internationally sought-after and stylistically versatile organist, a creative and passionate improviser and a choir and orchestra conductor who is both experienced and eager to discover. His compositions reach a large audience both through their tonal nuance and their rousing rhythm.
Its musical center is the Stuttgart collegiate church. As abbey cantor, he leads the Stuttgart Abbey Music with the ensembles Stuttgarter Kantorei, soloist ensemble stimmkunst, Stiftsbarock Stuttgart as well as Stiftsphilharmonie Stuttgart and the renowned concert series Hour of Church Music. After the 10-year cycle Bach:vokal 2011-2021, he has the cycle |:Mendelssohn:| in 2023 started.
He has been supervising an organ class at the Lucerne University of Music since 2021, and as a professor from autumn semester 24. Since 2023 he has been a doctoral student in the joint PhD program Artistic Research at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and the Freiburg University of Music.

Neu: Dozentur für Orgel in Luzern
In addition to my work as a monastery cantor in Stuttgart, I have been a lecturer (from autumn 24 professor) for organ literary performance and improvisation at the Lucerne University of Music since 2021. With me you can take all courses related to the organ. The university also has a wide range of continuing education options as part of the CAS and DAS programs. Entrance exams only take place once a year, namely in April - even if you don't want to start in the fall/winter semester, but in the following spring. The registration deadline is always the end of February. Further information can be found here.

Auf meinem YouTube-Channel Kay Johannsen gibt es eine eigene Playlist (nach BWV-Nummern geordnet) mit inzwischen 27 (!) Orgelwerken von J.S. Bach, die ich an der Mühleisen-Orgel in der Stiftskirche gespielt habe – und zwar alle auswendig. Es sind viele große Orgelwerke dabei wie Toccata, Adagio und Fuge C-Dur BWV 564, Toccata und Fuge d-Moll BWV 565, Passacglia c-Moll BWV 582 oder auch Präludium und Fuge D-Dur BWV 532.
